Health Sciences Education Building receives favorable review from JCCR

March 23, 2010 (Phoenix, Ariz.) - The state legislature's Joint Committee on Capital Review (JCCR) gave a favorable review to the university system's Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB), giving the green light for construction to begin. HSEB is part of the planned expansion of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix in partnership with Arizona State University in downtown Phoenix.

"The Board of Regents thanks Speaker Adams, Chairman Kavanagh and legislative supporters of the university systems' Phoenix Biomedical Campus capital project," said Board President Ernest Calderón. "This review enables the project to move forward and bring a state-of-the-art facility to university students while creating over 2,000 new jobs in Arizona."

Construction of the HSEB is expected to begin in mid-April and will allow the College of Medicine - Phoenix to grow its class size to at least 120 medical students per year from its current 48 per year; provide space for training 80 advanced pharmacy students in the University of Arizona's Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Heath and College of Pharmacy; support more than 2,000 nursing students at Arizona State University's College of Nursing and Health Innovation and Department of Biomedical Informatics, and assist with the start-up of Northern Arizona University's Health Professions program.
